Do You Wear Your Engagement Ring On Your Wedding Day?

Many people might be wondering, if you should wear your engagement ring on your wedding day or not – well, it’s all up to you! If you would like to wear both the engagement ring and the wedding ring during your ceremony it is completely your decision.

In some cases, to ensure the adequate position of the ring, some brides temporarily move their engagement ring to their right hand. Once the wedding has taken place, they return the ring over the wedding band.

Some people like to wear their wedding ring on top of their engagement ring as a way to keep it secure on the finger.

Here at Co-Creatives we offer a variety of engagement rings that will suit your lifestyle and preferences. Our jewellery collection has something for everyone. Without a doubt you will find your dream product for sale with us.

Are You Supposed To Wear An Engagement Ring On Wedding Day?

As mentioned earlier, it is perfectly fine and natural for the engagement ring to remain on the ring finger during the wedding ceremony. However, it is traditionally appropriate for the wedding ring to sit underneath the engagement ring but the option is still there for you to swap them over.

Standard Etiquette for Wearing Your Engagement Ring on Your Wedding Day

Standard Etiquette for Wearing Your Engagement Ring on Your Wedding Day

Traditionally, it is suggested that engagement rings should be worn on the left hand, however it is far from a problem wearing it on the right hand during the ceremony. Once the ceremony has finished you can swap it back over to the left hand to accompany your wedding ring.

When the rings are being exchanged, the groom would place the wedding ring on the bride’s ring finger on her left hand. The wedding ring will be placed first in order for it to be closer to the bride’s heart. It is then the bride’s choice if they would like to slip the engagement ring on top of the wedding band or not.

It is tradition that this would be done to protect the sacred wedding band alongside the bond of love.

The Traditional Order of Wearing Your Wedding and Engagement Rings

Traditionally a newly wedded wife should wear a wedding band on the inside of her finger (so the first ring on her finger). However, it being closer to heart isn’t the only reason for the positioning of the ring. It also allows the bride to take off the engagement ring to protect and clean the diamonds and gems with more ease.

Traditionally you should, however, don’t hesitate to wear your rings to your preference.

You will display a timeless, eye-catching combination whilst wearing both rings. But everyone is different, many choose to wear either just the engagement ring or just the wedding ring.

Some may argue that people prefer wearing one ring for comfort reasons. People out there have physically demanding jobs and constant wearing of the ring may cause some damage. So, to avoid wear and tear they may just wear one.

Having one ring also avoids the hassle and stress of having to choose rings that match. You have the opportunity to put all of your focus on one ring.

Do You Wear Your Engagement Ring When You Walk Down The Aisle?

Tradition states that the bride should move her engagement ring to her other hand while walking down the aisle. This should be done if the wedding ring is going to be placed on the finger that the engagement ring is on. This allows the hand to be free and available for the wedding ring to take its appropriate position.

Once your wedding day is complete, there are a few options you can take when it comes to what to do with your engagement ring. Some of these options include:

  • Move the ring: As stated prior, the wedding ring goes first for it to be closer to the heart and at times the bride will temporarily move the engagement ring to their right hand.
  • Leave the ring: The bride could also leave the ring on their left hand, this allows the groom to place the wedding band on top of the ring.
  • Don’t wear it: There’s also the option to not wear the engagement ring completely.

What Should I Do with My Engagement Ring On My Wedding Day 5 Easy Options?

On the wedding day, there are a few options you can pursue with what you do with your engagement ring.

Here are 5 easy options:

    1. No engagement ring – Wearing no engagement ring on the big day makes your finger more available for when the special ring is placed on your finger.
    2. Different hands: As stated earlier, tradition states that your engagement rings should be worn on the left hand. However, if you were to wear it on your right hand that would not be an issue.
    3. Same finger – It is completely normal to keep your engagement ring on during the ceremony.
  • Wear it as a necklace –  If you can wear a necklace with the type of dress you have, it may be a good idea to wear your engagement ring on a chain as a pendant. This allows your ring to remain visible but not take all attention away from your main wedding band.
  • Integrate it into your bouquet – You may be able to integrate your ring within your bouquet using a ribbon to tie it securely into place. This allows you to carry your bouquet and ring along with you all day long and also take some flashy photographs.

Like mentioned above, Co-Creatives offer many rings available for you to choose from. Whether you’re looking for jewellery for yourself or your other half, we got you covered! If there’s a piece on our website that has caught your eye feel free to check out our collection.
